Starting out as a digital marketing intern
- 11 Jun 2015
I am Abi, Rooster’s newest member of the team for the summer!
As an intern for the next three months I am hoping to practice and gain experience in different roles within the company, and to ultimately discover which areas interest me as a potential career choice; ideally before going into my final year at university and entering the big wide world of real life and jobs…yikes!
At school I discovered a passion for film and writing which I continued to pursue at college, where I was given the freedom to make multiple short films. After entering and winning in local film competitions and festivals, I realised that I wanted to follow a career in which I could satisfy a creative role.
After finishing my A-Levels, I deferred my place at university to embark on the infamous ‘Gap Yah’. I spent six weeks interrailing around Europe with five friends; also accompanied by an oversized backpack and a questionable tent, living off french bread, watermelon and Mentos.
After a few months of reacquiring funds, I set off for a year in Australia, where I jumped out of a plane at 14,000 ft, dived the Great Barrier Reef and worked on a cherry orchard in Tasmania. All in all I ticked off the checklist of a stereotypical backpacker…and then, back home to reality.
Back in reality and I have now just finished my second year at the University of East Anglia (UEA) in Norwich, where I am studying English Literature and Film.
During my first year at uni, aside from reading a novel a week and watching the entire series of Breaking Bad, I took a shot (literally) at a new sport which was far out of my comfort zone; so far out that I found myself in a boxing ring. Since then I have taken part in my first fight, which I successfully lost. Nevertheless, I certainly did succeed in surprising everyone including myself, and that’s something I’d like to continue to do.
Here at Rooster, I look forward to confronting any challenges in web design and digital marketing, meeting clients and exercising my filmmaking and writing skills, but above all I look forward to making tea and coffee for the team.
Outside of the office I am a frequent cinema goer, I enjoy a nice glass of sauv blanc and on occasion I attempt to run. I also take an interest in photography, which means that I am normally attached to a camera, taking pictures of an aesthetic plate of food, a pretty sky or my dog…#art.
