Downe House School

making a school stand out

Deag Byrne

Downe House is an independent boarding school in Berkshire for girls aged 11-18. The school has strong traditions, but also has a modern twist.

Downe House approached Rooster to create an eye-catching website, with a difference. They wanted to capture the unique personalities of their students, the range of subjects and the activities on offer at the school. We created a concept that linked these aspects of the school together, through stunning photography.

Unlike many websites for schools, the website we created was built on an open-source CMS. This gave the client complete flexibility and control of their own content, and the freedom to choose any supplier to work on their website in the future.

In order to work properly, our creative concept had to be meticulously planned. The images were very carefully storyboarded before shooting, to provide a strong visual link when placed together. Our photography team went on location to capture the breathtaking images of a school full of activity – telling the story of life at Downe House.

The images were backed up with a strong message: ‘whoever you are’, ‘whoever you want to be’ ‘be a Downe House girl’

On the website, images were paired in animations which snap together. This created a strong visual identity for the school. Two sides: one traditional, one modern – both working together to nurture the bright young talent of tomorrow.

Our vivid photography is still a key feature of the school’s marketing materials, edited and developed by our team to work perfectly in digital and print.
